Software Engineer 2 (SE2)

The software engineer is responsible for analysis, design, coding, component and assembly testing of software. Software engineers typically are involved in maintenance (including production support), enhancement and development work. Software engineers have a range of skills and knowledge of current technologies

Agency Expected Deliverables
Experience: Four plus years
Education: Four-year college degree or equivalent technical study.
Description of skills and knowledge include:
• Analyze and design enhancements, development programs, and/or required fixes to production problems.
• Design applications to functional and technical programming standards.
• Work with other technical resources to execute program and processing solutions
• Develop system specifications and interfaces.
• Determine time estimates and schedule for work.


Specific Skills Required (Programming languages, databases, operating systems, etc.)
Production Support /Job Specific Skills:
• Develop, support, and maintain complex integrated systems solutions typically involving more than one client and using multiple technologies, platforms, and interfaces;
• Define technology needs, develop strategic and tactical solutions, and implement solutions using the optimal technology, platform and interfaces;
• Define system requirements for potential uses of information technologies through working with enterprise management, other technology-oriented staff, and end-user clients;
• Research available tools and technology to determine alternate technology solutions;
• Research, implement, and support multiple computing platforms, operating systems, and processing environments
• Design, develop, test, and implement new technologies;
• Conduct group and individual training on the use of integrated hardware and/or software technologies;
• Conduct cost/benefit of feasibility analysis;


Desired skills:
• Experience working with batch processing and real-time file transfers
• Extensive experience in troubleshooting processing jobs and keeping job schedule processing running to completion.
• Experience working through code release processes and following playscripts to completion
• Experience using MVS Job Control language
• Experience using automated Job Scheduling Software, example CA Workload Automation.
