Must have skills manipulating large data files in a UNIX environment. Must be familiar with UNIX, shell, and scripting tools to manipulate large, flat file, data sets. Must know how to join various data sets on common keys. Contractor must be able to check extracted data for data quality, look for outliers and troubleshoot them, and apply transformations. Must know techniques to summarize data for the analysts. Contractor will be expected in some cases to anonymize data by replacing personally identifiable info with obfuscated identifiers. Programmer must know techniques to hash the data in this way using a one-to-one reversible transformation. Must be able to convert files of different data types, including raw binary and SAS formats into and out of ASCII-readable files. Will support research teams in data analysis, management, summarization and maintenance. Skills and experience with large scale data analysis is preferred and should be highlighted in the application. The programmer will be an important member of the Research team, providing both data extraction, manipulation, and technical guidance. Programmer must be able to pick up new languages quickly, and will be required to learn a proprietary query language. Programmer will work with a variety of teams: spoken and written English and other communication skills are absolutely essential. Must have the ability to work independently. Also must be able to effectively document workflows so that others can re-implement.
