Systems Administrator Job Description
The System Administrator will support the Department of Justice (DOJ) by providing desktop and server support including virtual servers, SAN, and other IT related equipment. The qualified candidate will join a team that is responsible for the administration, maintenance, monitoring, and support of infrastructure operations. The qualified candidate will be responsible for the investigation, resolution, and explanation of infrastructure related issues. The candidate will also be required to deploy and implement enhancements that will improve the reliability, maintainability, and performance of DOJ systems and its infrastructure. In accordance with security policies and directives, the candidate will deploy, maintain, and enhance the security of server and desktop systems through administrative, preventive, detective, and reactive controls, such as change and configuration management, anti-virus measures, patch management, and system scans. Candidate should be self-motivated, a good team player, possess good communications skills, and be able to multi-task in a fast paced environment.

Essential Duties and Accountabilities:
Perform daily system monitoring, verifying the integrity and availability of desktop and server resources.
Perform daily administration activities for Microsoft Windows servers
Prepare, configure and deploy Windows Server 200x virtual machines (VMs).
Thin client provisioning
Windows systems administration (Windows7, Windows Server 2010, Windows Server 2012, Terminal Services, Exchange)
Virtualization (Vmware Vcenter, ESXi, Vsphere or other)
Develop and maintain installation, administration and configuration procedures.
Monitor patch releases and develop patch installation strategies for desktops and servers.
Provide input to the policies and procedures related to support, monitoring and backup.
Perform ongoing virtual machine performance tuning and resource optimization as required.
Support user questions, problems, and needs with prompt and courteous attention.
Monitor network system information, including traffic, inbound & outbound queues, server metrics, execution time, storage space, and implement efficiency improvements.
On call is required
Requires extended work hours, evening /night hours as needed.

Job Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Experience with VMware, VMotion, and VCenter
Microsoft ADS- Configuration, Maintenance & Troubleshooting
Microsoft Group Policy - Configuration, Maintenance & Troubleshooting
Experience with DNS, DHCP, AD Trusts, Routing
Logical Network & Protocol Problem Solving Skills
Comprehensive Virus, Spam & Web Security
Experience with MS Office 2003-2013 applications from a system administration perspective
Experience administering Windows Active Directory
Knowledge of monitoring software
Working knowledge of TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP
Good understanding of network engineering and security principles (e.g. protocols, routing, switching, filtering,
firewall rules, etc.)
Excellent customer service skills, including end-user support experience
Excellent verbal and written communication skills, as demonstrated by technical synopses, white papers, presentations, etc.
Ability to manage assigned tasks and clearly communicate status information.
Candidate should be able to work independently or as a member of a team on complex tasks.

Education and Experience:
Bachelor degree + 5 years experience preferred
At least 5 years systems administration experience with Windows 20xx server, and Windows 7 desktop systems
