Responsible for ensuring quality and consistency of the software architecture across the system and providing day-to-day technical guidance to the development teams. Define the system, technical, and application architectures for major areas of development and recommend course of action to maintain cost effectiveness and competitiveness. Stay up-to-date on business initiatives and objectives, particularly as these relate to infrastructure and development architecture issues. Research and implement best practices frameworks/capability models that will control costs, provide higher quality, and/or increase predictability of service delivery. Research new technology and development tools to remain abreast of current and emerging technology. Career-Level position within field. Requires experience and proficiency in discipline. Typically requires six to nine years experience or equivalent education.” Specific description: “This position is the highest level application architect within the client, Bureau of Information Technology Services (BITS). This position will report directly to the Chief Information Officer (CIO). The primary duties of this position are to create and document Enterprise Architecture standards for client BITS; assess current and planned application and business intelligence systems for adherence to standards; advise technical staff on standards during system design and development; mentor and train development staff on adherence to standards; and advise the CIO on any major architecture issues or concerns found during the course of these duties. The architect is expected to research new technologies and keep updated on the appropriate use of current technology in the client environment. Current application development technologies include .NET, Java, and COBOL. Middleware and ETL components include Visual Studio, Informatica, and SSIS. Database technologies include Oracle (including Exadata), DB2, and SQL Server. Reporting and visualization technologies include Tableau, Business Objects, Crystal Reports, and SQL Reporting Server.
